Ode to Billy Joe (1976)
This movie is available at Amazon.com on VHS and at Moviesyouwontfindatwalmart.com on DVD
The roots of this 70s drama came from a song that was a hit 9 years
earlier. Song writer/singer Bobbie Gentry weaved the story that was
unfolded at the dinner table of a southern family. As the lyrics just
lead to more questions and conjecture. The biggest question was
"Why did Billie Joe throw himself off the Tallahatchie Bridge?"
When asked by film producers, Bobbie Gentry said she didn't know
why? Other questions became the subject of the 1976 film directed
by Max Baer Jr. and starring Robby Benson and Glynnis O'Conner.

"Ode to Billy Joe" was a medium success
when released in the 70s. With a tag line of
"What the song didn't tell you, the movie
will", the subject matter might have been a
little ahead of it time. Still many people have
fond memories of this movie. It was released
on VHS once and never has been on DVD.
Rated PG and definitely has that 1970s soft
film atmosphere. Worth watching if you're
familiar with the song or like "Chick flick"
movies from the 70s or any era.
